The Mission

The mission of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to rescue and re-home senior dogs (age 7 and older) and to offer hospice care to rescued senior dogs in our program.

Organization Overview
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that incorporated in June 2012. SDH&H is an all volunteer foster based organization located in Delaware. Our goal is to be there for the older dogs who have been abandoned at a time in their life when their need for comfort, companionship and care is at it’s highest.

Ok, so now you have all of the general brick & mortar of this wonderful dare I even say rescue (we'll open that can of worms later)!You're about to see the world through my eyes & they will soon be eyes very wide open! Please read on!

Disclaimer first: I'm going to take a little carte blanche, with their own words! I say this, only because I had something to say about them, but something good! I felt they weren't nearly giving themselves the credit they deserved, so I'm going to rectify that, with what I'm about to write, with part of their own words!

Senior Dog Haven & Hospice are a small, dedicated group of fosters and volunteers, that strive to improve the lives of senior dogs who find themselves without a family to care for them anymore. They do not have a facility & our dogs live in our homes as members of our families. They provide care, comfort, companionship & most of all, unconditional love. They have worked in senior rescue for years, and see the continuing & growing need to get them out of shelters where they are often euthanized because of their age and/or medical reasons, or from owners that find themselves in crisis and no longer able to care for their companions (nursing home, illness, abusive situations, etc).

MY PART NOW: NOW, THAT BEING SAID , the biggest part & what means the most to these furbabies is the Senior Dog Haven people know these dogs; their wants & needs! They feel that unconditional love, but with that, when those dogs are hurting or worse, they feel that pain! It's not a volunteer pain; it's a pet parent pain! It's not something that every rescue volunteer gets, but it is something that the Rescue Angels at Senior Dog Haven & Hospice gets & that's one of the many differences! The difference of the unconditional love, the pain, the play, the pets, the unfun jobs & knowing that the wheel just keeps turning, but that you wouldn't change it, unless......UNLESS & until that wonderful day that all dogs had a furever home & you were wonderfully out of a job! That's why Senior Dog Haven deserves our support! READ ON!

Most rescues, I've found, have become cookie cutter, all sounding the same, yet when they speak, they nothing. They mostly want to deal with puppies or younger dogs, since they are easily placed, bring higher adoption fees. There are far less medical bills & far more profits. They don't know who their animals are & they don't deal properly with their senior/special needs animals! Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is doing just the opposite! They are not only taking care of these animals until adoption, but they are taking care of them, for life, if that's what they require! That's real love & real haven & hospice! A real rescue/sanctuary always knows their dogs, takes the time to make the right placements, takes care of medical & hospice, doing it with love, while continuing to help the others in the process! This is the way that a haven/hospice should be run!

BELIEVE THIS,, the road that Senior Dog Haven & Hospice has chosen will be laden with hard work & is one that takes a lot of love & patience, as well! It is not something that I've found most rescues have the heart to choose, which brings me to my final point! Senior Dog Haven & Hospice deserves our support, in whatever way you choose, because it does take that patience & love & showers it upon dogs, some which have never known love & some so ill, that even other places, might call them disposable & give up on them! Senior Dog Haven & Hospice gives them medical care, gives them a home & most importantly, gives them the love, that they have never known! If that doesn't deserve our respect & support, then I don't know what does! I have to say is that Senior Dog Haven & Hospice does so much, for these dogs everyday! EVERY one of us, owe them something, to help with all of the emotional & financial tolls, that they are paying daily. They get the love from the animals, but the suffer so much loss with the senior & special needs! The medical, food, spay/neuter is through the roof & they are a small rescue with small adoption fees! They need our help, in the form of donations, volunteers, fosters, adoptions, Amazon Smile, wishlist items, or start a Facebook or Go Fund Me fundraiser! Not necessarily in that order! It’s more than a matter of the heart, it’s a matter of the soul! You gotta feel it!
